“I talk, therefore I am,” – as Descartes never said.
But you know what? I think a lot of us live by this rule.
We feel the need to say something – to fill the gap, to be noticed – otherwise… well… are we really there?
So let me encourage you to do the opposite; to be quiet and leave the gap unfilled.
Today, find more time for silence. See if you can watch the sunset without commentary. Notice if you can leave your opinion unsaid.
Here’s the thing: When we’re still – when we’re silent – we get access to more wisdom than words could express.
When we resist the temptation to fill the void with thoughts, we allow inspiration to reach us.
When we stop gasping for air, we allow our lungs to fill.
So today, try spending more time in silence. Let your thoughts come and go.
Instead of “I talk, therefore I am,” simply know that ‘I am.”
