Put on your own oxygen mask before helping others.
That’s what the pre-fight safety demo says.
And it’s true.
If you’re living in a bad-feeling place, you can’t be of service to others.
So there’s nothing wrong – nothing selfish – in putting your own needs first.
Yesterday I was very tired. I’ve had a tough couple of weeks. My body was telling me that I needed a day of rest. So that’s what I did: I stayed at home all day and turned down a dinner invitation.
Once upon a time, I would have judged myself for doing that. I would have called myself selfish and anti-social.
But you know what? I would have been a terrible dinner guest and I would have felt worse today.
But instead, today I feel a lot better.
Today I can be of service.
So the simple lesson is: Do what you need to do to feel better.
Then you can reach a place of alignment.
And then you can be of service.
Put your own oxygen mask on first.
