I ran into an acquaintance in the grocery store on Saturday.
“How is your summer going?” she asked.
I said: “What summer?” (It has been cool and rainy here so far).
“Oh, I love it,” she said. “It’s pleasant… and it saves me watering the garden.”
I felt well and truly busted!
She’s right: there is no good weather or bad weather. There is just weather.
It’s our reaction to it that makes it good or bad.
So while I was there complaining about the lack of hot sunny days, she was happily enjoying the weather we actually got.
Now, this isn’t some Pollyannaish “everything is wonderful” affirmation.
Instead, it’s just accepting what is.
The weather is what it is and there’s nothing we can do about it (unless we want to hop on a plane right there and then).
Well-being comes with accepting what is, not wishing it were different.
Good weather or bad weather – it’s just weather.
